Title: His Gift To Us
My father died on a Wednesday.
He died in a white room
with white walls, white curtains,
white sheets,
and a white nurse.
Black lung.
Asbestos graffiti painted
on pink tissue,
a body vandalized by life.
Pictures for paycheques,
his health for our wealth.
He welcomed the trade.
Nothing for nothing, an eternal truth.
